It is freezing in Des Moines. All week, we have been treated to temperatures that would make a penguin numb. For all of those that are deathly afraid of global warming, I invite you to come spend an afternoon walking around central Iowa in January. Your fears will quickly be replaced with the fear of your ears freezing and detaching from your head. (Sorry, I just really like summer better.)
This time of year is also an “in-between” period here for sports fans. The Super Bowl is a week and a half away, but football is essentially over. Basketball is always fun, but we are still about 2 months away from March Madness and the NBA playoffs don’t begin until April. Professional hockey just finally started up, and baseball is nowhere to be found. But don’t worry! We have exciting sports news here at Laser Resources!
Iowa sports teams love copying. And printing. And scanning. EXCITING, RIGHT?! Ok, maybe that’s just us, but as a local Iowa company based in Des Moines, we are excited to be supporting these teams in any way we possibly can. We aren’t very good at making 3-pointers or defending slap shots, but we can run a copier like it’s nobody’s business.
As winter rolls on, we are proud to continue supporting Iowa State Athletics up in Ames. Our copiers are helping the Iowa State Athletic Department, Cyclones.tv, and Cyclone Sports Properties. These organizations are using our equipment to increase their print speeds and capabilities, getting their scouting reports, press releases, and depth charts in front of decision makers sooner. The two most visible winter sports at ISU, men’s and women’s basketball, are both off to strong starts in the Big 12. And we are always excited to see men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg, “The Mayor”, standing in front of our Laser Resources courtside sign!
Here in Des Moines, we are proud to support the Des Moines Buccaneers and their tradition of winning hockey. The Bucs also help young hockey players realize their dreams of going to college on hockey scholarships, as well as bigger dreams of playing in the NHL someday. The Bucs are using our service team to keep their copier working at optimum levels, keeping their reports printing when they need them. And we are enjoying screaming our lungs out over an ice cold beer on Friday nights.
As one football season ends, another begins. The Iowa Barnstomers will be back in action at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines before we know it, and they will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2012 season. We are proud to support the Barnstormers (and their loyal fan base) with printing equipment for their various print needs.
We aren’t all about professional teams either. We are proud to support local Iowa high schools and their student-athletes, since the vast majority of our employees were once student-athletes at these very schools. Laser Resources is a proud partner of the Iowa Sports Spotlight, bringing high school sports action to your radio, TV, and Internet every week. The Iowa Sports Spotlight uses a copier from us to print and copy reports and radio transcripts from within their office downtown Des Moines. We also supply equipment and service for the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, supporting their day-to-day activities and special equipment for state tournaments. We just can’t resist those humid gyms and salty popcorn on a cold January night.
So “Go Team!”…and remember that Spring Break is only 50 days away. But who’s counting?
